Oda

Pattern: Farbenmix Oda
Fabric: Patterned cord from Crafty Mamas, pink cord from Spotlight
Embroidery: PUPPIg

As part of getting organised for winter I've started picking some warmer clothes patterns out to make for the kids. I think this pattern is super sweet and a good one for heavier fabrics like cord. I generally like to have a look around the internet at finished items before I start sewing but I didn't have a lot of luck finding many finished Oda's though I did find a few comments about what a cute pattern it was but "with some alterations".

After making it up I can see why, I really don't like the construction of this dress. My biggest gripe is the way the yoke is added. To put it together you overlock the top edges of the dress, sew the yokes together and turn them out and then place the two yoke pieces over the top of the dress and topstitch them to attach (you can see it in the above picture). It just doesn't look finished to me. I also don't think I would extend the folds down the front of the dress again, it seems a little bulky (could be the fabric though) but I think a few pleats in the same position at the top would be better.

Despite not being too happy with the finished dress I will definitely make this one again but with alterations, I guess I'll put this one down to a trial run and Emma can wear it around the house. Oh and I also cut the wider version ("stronger" if you go by the google translation LOL) as I thought she could get wear out of it as both a dress and top as she grows but I think next time I'll stick to the "normal" version as I think that will be wide enough anyway. I did take some shots of her with it on but they were all too blurry so pics on the grass it is!

Hmmm. I've been dithering about this one for ages... I love mod dresses but I wasn't keen on the construction either. I think your version is cute enough to leave the house though!

Thanks for the feedback on the pattern. I might wait till you have perfected it before I make one up :P It looks lovely though.

Ohh this is so so pretty! I have this pattern & hadn't bothered too much with it, but after seeing yours I might give it a try.

I love this little dress! I love the round neck and the pleats at the bottom.
Where are you buying your Fabenmix patterns from? I am a bit keen to get my hands on a few more.
Have a great weekend.
