Ottobre Pinafore

|

A little bit more sewing that I finished a few weeks ago and forgot to blog about.

Ottobre 02/2005, #10 Pinafore Dress
Fabric: Cotton Drill from Spotlight

I originally bought this Ottobre because I had seen a gorgeous version of this pinafore in plain denim. I'm not sure why I decided to use this drill but I kind of like it and kind of don't. I think I'll end up making it again in denim, Emma has some cute patterned tights that would go really well with it.

It's also starting to cool down here especially at night so I made Sam and Jess some pjs (I knew Emma was getting pjs for her birthday). These are Kwik Sew 3234 and the fabrics are Hamburger Liebe, Hilco and Stella all from Crafty Mamas.

Ooh and look what arrived here today!

Lots of pretty new fabrics for bags, I need to have a big cutting session!

Crafting Disaster

|

We've all had our fair share of crafting disasters/mishaps and this happens to be my latest.

This is a Roxy I am making for Emma. I have had it cut for over a week trying to decide what to put on the front and decided to go with a bit of ribbon and some flower embroideries from Huups.

It was going so well, I was happy with where I had the flowers and then I discovered this...

... yes that is the other side of the dress front caught under the hoop and I didn't notice. That is the back of the embroidered flower and my hoop is caught in there. I guess this is what you get for embroidering at 11:00 at night. It's not like it's salvageable but I'll have to cut the dress to get the hoop out and tomorrow I'll head back to Spotlight to get another piece of denim because I don't have any left. I probably normally wouldn't bother but I've already done the back and put the zip in. Oh well at least I can laugh, I'm sure it won't be the last time I do something like this.

Winter Sewing

|

Even though the weather is still all over the place at the moment it will be winter before we know it so time to start on the winter sewing.

Ottobre Design 04/2011 - #28 Carrot Muffin

I cut this out for Jess last year, couldn't get the pockets how I wanted and so it sat there for over a year. Oops! I was looking for a zip the other night and found it and decided to pick the pockets off and start again. I'm happy I did, I really like how this turned out and it will look cute with a long sleeve top underneath and some leggings.

A Farbenmix Antonia for Emma and yes I know it's very pink. Very pink! She loves it though so at least it will get lots of wear.

The embroidery is Fuchzi from Zaubermasche. I put a piece of the arm fabric behind the embroidery and then cut it away, looking at it I really should have used a contrasting thread to sew the square.

And finally a Farbenmix Amelie for Emma, I will never get sick of this pattern. It looks so much better on but she wasn't interested in putting it on for me to take a photo. Oh well. As per usual the fabrics are all from Crafty Mamas. :)

Softies

|

There's been a bit of softie making around these parts, seems I've been on a bit of a roll.

The rabbit I made for an Easter Swap at Crafty Mamas. The pattern is Well Dressed Bunny from Fuzzy Mitten. I used this pattern a couple of years ago to make rabbits for my kids, the cape I made up as I went along and same for the dress. She has arrived at her new home already, I normally get myself into a last minute swap panic trying to figure out what to make but was actually pretty organised this time around.

This doll I made using the Little Red Riding Hood pattern from Revoluzzza. I really like her softies (I like the fox pattern in her store) and Emma has claimed this one.

Finally a Flower Fairy Doll for my cousin using a pattern from Dolls and Daydreams. All those little pieces - so fiddly!

The wings are held on with snaps and can easily be taken off. Even though the girls have asked for one of these each they might be waiting a while, I think I've had my fill of toy making at the moment. I think it's the stuffing that gets me, I don't enjoy it at all.

Last but not least another pair of socks ready for winter.

The yarn has photographed pretty badly, it's more red and not quite as orange as it looks there. The pattern is Fluttery-by Socks, a freebie on ravelry.

Rudi Kindergarten Backpack

|

Emma is off to 3's kindergarten this year so I decided to make her a little backpack to take. She only goes for a morning session once a week and only needs her drink bottle and snack so I thought this little backpack would be perfect.

I bought the pattern from Lillesol-und-Pell from Dawanda, it is only available in German but has great pictures to help you through (and Google translate is also handy for the cutting list.) The fabric is Hoo's In The Forest and the spots are a drill I picked up from Spotlight.

It's the perfect size for Em though considering her love of creating my DH did ask if it would be big enough for all her paintings and pastings!

Owlie Socks

|

Pattern: Owlie Socks
Yarn: Malabrigo Sock in Ochre

I normally churn out a few pairs of socks over the summer months and this is my first pair. Truth be told though I think I might have started these back in winter but I made a mistake on the first one and just left it sitting on my sewing desk, about 4 months later I picked it up, the mistake took me 5 minutes to fix and I was off again.

I finished the second in just over a week while watching far too much tennis on TV. I've never knit with this yarn before and have a feeling it might fluff quite badly with a bit of wear, the first sock was unravelled a few times and I can really see the difference. It probably won't bother me too much though, just as well I have just cast another sock on in the same yarn again.

IvyAnna

|

Pattern: IvyAnna by Shannon Passmore

I loved this pattern when it came out and have had it in my ravelry queue for ages, when I decided to frog my Clapotis because I never wore it (it was too hot and heavy) I thought this yarn would be a good match for this pattern. The yarn is butter soft, I'm pretty sure it's Treliske and this was dyed by Monsoon Designs which sadly is no more.

The buttons are the same but aren't really a good match, one is quite a bit lighter than the other. Anyway I hope I can convince Emma to wear it this winter, it would be very cute with a plain white top underneath.

I also managed to sew up a few new library bags last week seeing as we are nearly back at school.

I decided to line them as the fabric wouldn't be thick enough on it's own, I did initially put another inner layer in there but it was too bulky. I can't believe I will have two at school this year, the time is flying!
